GV Sanjay Reddy Vision for the Future of Renewable Energy Procurement in India

GV Sanjay Reddy says that to increase the amount of renewable energy in India’s power grid, we need to find new ways to keep the grid stable. Some potential solutions include using energy storage systems to manage the ups and downs in energy production and making thermal power plants more flexible. Other strategies could involve redesigning the wholesale market, improving forecasting methods, using smart meters, and better managing energy demand.

However, in India, the impact of managing energy demand has been limited so far because smart meters are not widely used and time-of-use pricing is not common.

To address these challenges, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the main agency responsible for renewable energy projects, is introducing new procurement models. These models aim to ensure a reliable supply of energy by combining renewable sources with hybrid systems, guaranteed peak power, and round-the-clock energy supply.
